The Game Tester Guide

So you’re looking for a game tester guide in order to become a beta tester? It’s true that it’s a great occupation
choice if you live to play games, but it’s not quite as easy as many think it is. There are long hours involved,
especially during the Christmas holiday rush, and the job is often more stressful and tedious than many believe it will
be. So what is involved in being a video game tester? Here is a video game tester guide to help you understand
exactly what is involved in this interesting and different profession.

Finding the Game Tester Job

The first tricky part about being a video game tester is to find the job. You can land one by making contacts; lots,
and lots of contacts. The more people you come to know who are in the business, the easier it’s going to be to land
a job. Also, contacts will help you after you’re in your position to further your career, if that is what you choose to do.

What Do Game Testers Do?

So what does a video game tester do all day? That actually depends on the day. There may be days when the tester
is asked to simply play a game and note any glitches. They may be asked to play the game in order to rate the
playability of the game, and to report on whether the puzzles in the game are too hard to solve or not. More likely,
though, the video game tester will be given a specific task, and will be able to do nothing until that task is completed.
So be skeptical of any game tester guide that makes it sound easy

Take, for instance, a game where the character the gamer is controlling can interact with other characters, like in the
popular, multiplayer Warcraft series. The tester might be asked to do nothing but walk around, talk to the non-player
characters, and record their answers. They then bring that record back to the programmers so that the programmers
can make sure that everything is accurate. A player might also be asked to play one specific area of a game to find a
glitch that the programmers suspect is there. The programmers will then try to fix the glitch, and the player has to
play that part over and over again until the glitch is fixed. Sometimes testers will simply be asked to pull out the
memory card or the controller every once in awhile to see how the game reacts.

The life of a video game tester is certainly not glamorous. It is, however, a completely necessary job. Video game
testers are the ones that make sure that the games play properly before they hit the shelves, so that the company
can reap the benefits. If you truly enjoy playing video games, and love trying to solve a puzzle at the same time, than
you are just the type of person who should be looking online for a video game tester guide.
